Shebesh drops charges against Kidero

Nairobi women representative Rachel Shebesh yesterday withdrew the assault case against Governor Dr Evans Kidero.

Shebesh, who was accompanied by majority leader Adan Duale, said it had taken her long to withdraw the complaint at Parliament Police station because of legal processes involved.

The police will now inform the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko, who will then order the police investigation to be closed. She said Dr Kidero has also withdrawn assault charges filed against Shebesh at Central police station.

High court Judge Justice Lenaola had directed that the two leaders sort out their differences outside court failure to which the DPP will arrest and press criminal charges against them.

Last September, Kidero allegedly slapped Shebesh who had joined a group of striking workers at City Hall, and they had forced their way into the antechamber of the governor's office.

Kidero opened the door of his office to find Shebesh and around 30 workers outside. He then allegedly slapped her.

Kidero later issued a public apology.

Tobiko had instructed CID chief Ndegwa Muhoro to file charges against the two leaders.

Tobiko told the police to charge Kidero with assault and press charges of creating a disturbance on Shebesh over the scuffle at City Hall.
